After setting up my home gym, I quickly grew tired of tripping over the water bottle that always seemed to be loafing around on the floor. Rather than continue kicking it out of the way, I decided to design a secure, purpose-built holder for the squat rack.

After measuring the rack, I developed a pin-and-hook mounting system that holds firmly in place while remaining easy to remove and reposition.

Rather than incorporating the mounting hardware into every bottle holder, I developed a modular dovetail interface. This allowed multiple holder designs to use the same rack-mounted base, reducing print time and material waste while making each attachment easy to swap.

The design progressed through several printed iterations, beginning with a basic proof of concept and gradually refining the fit, strength and usability. The final version combines practical everyday function with a distinctive rib-and-spar structure inspired by aircraft construction.

The bottle holder was then designed around this mount, combining practical everyday function with an aesthetic inspired by aircraft structures.

A simple solution to a small but persistent problem and exactly the sort of project I enjoy developing.
